QUALIFICATIONS:

A professional nurse currently licensed in the state of Arkansas. She must demonstrate the ability to plan, supervise, and evaluate the nursing care given on her specified nursing unit.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The staff nurse is responsible to the Director of Nursing service for planning, supervising, and evaluating:

  1. All nursing functions during his/her tour of duty.
  2. Administration of nursing home routines and policies during his/her tour of duty.
  3. See that all personnel on the unit during his/her tour of duty function to the maximum capacity.
  4. Maintaining the highest quality of patient care in compliance with the physician’s orders.
  5. The nursing care administered by the private duty nurses.
  6. Cooperating in planning and evaluating experiences for employees under his/her supervision.
  7. Keeping all matters concerning the nursing home, the patients, and nursing home personnel in strict confidence. DO NOT DISCUSS WITH FELLOW EMPLOYEES.
  8. Refraining from any type of gossip.
  9. Participation on designated committees in nursing service

DUTIES:

Functions related to patient care—provide comprehensive nursing care to all patients by:

  1. Cooperating with the supervisor in setting up a nursing care plan for each patient.
  2. Assigning specific duties to nursing personnel under his/her supervision.
  3. Assisting supervisor in preparing time schedules.
  4. Providing proper assistance to medical staff.
  5. Directing and supervising the activities of the nursing personnel assigned to the unit during his/her tour of duty.
  6. Checking all patients’ charts for accurate reporting and recording of symptoms, reactions, and progress.
  7. Visiting patients frequently to evaluate their condition and need for nursing care.
  8. Rendering direct nursing care as needed.
  9. Working in any patient care area on which my immediate supervisor may assign me.
  10. Supervise NA, ward clerk & feeders.
  11. Enforce NA training.
  12. On duty orientation for licensed personnel.
  13. Assign nurses cleaning duties.
  14. Obtain laboratory specimens.
  15. Assist nurses during stress situations.
  16. Collect and file work sheets weekly.
  17. Check Kardex for accuracy weekly.
  18. Keep daily and weekly BP request updated.
  19. Check daily, weekly, & monthly weights.
  20. Check charts two halls per week for content
    1. HS feedings
    2. Restraints
    3. Catheter care
    4. PRN medication
    5. VS
    6. Edema
    7. Oral Hygiene
    8. Incident follow up
    9. Doctor’s orders & visits
  21. Weekly review of narcotic books.
  22. Assume duties of Director of Nursing Service in his/her absence.
  23. Weekly Decubitus Sheets.
